IBCLC-CERTIFIED LACTATION SUPPORT ONLINE

Virtual Lactation Consultant
who see what you can't

60% of mums stop breastfeeding earlier than they planned. Not because they wanted to because they didn't have the right breastfeeding support. A virtual lactation consultant changes that.

Only 1 in 4 infants are exclusively breastfed to 6 months (CDC). The gap isn't willpower. It's support.

THE REALITY

Virtual breastfeeding support when you need it most

You were told breastfeeding is "natural." Nobody mentioned it could feel impossible.

The AAP and WHO recommend exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months. 86% of US mothers start breastfeeding. But by 6 months, only 25.8% are still exclusively nursing. The drop-off is about latch pain, supply anxiety, tongue ties, pumping confusion, and zero expert guidance during the hardest learning curve.

A lactation consultant doesn't judge your feeding choices. They assess what's happening, identify the issue, and give you a concrete plan. Whether you breastfeed for 6 weeks or 2 years, the goal is that it works for YOU.

Lactation coaching questions parents ask most

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can a lactation consultant help over video call?

1

Yes. They observe you feeding in real time, assess latch and positioning, and build a personalized plan. Multiple 2024 meta-analyses confirm no significant difference between online and in-person support.

How much does an online lactation consultant cost?

2

Consultations range from $75 to $200 per session. Multi-session packages cost $350 to $800. Most consultants on MissPoppins offer a free 15-minute discovery call.

What's the difference between an IBCLC and a lactation counselor?

3

An IBCLC holds the highest credential (1,000+ clinical hours, board exam). A CLC completes a shorter training. Both provide valuable support. MissPoppins matches you with the right level.

Why do most mothers stop breastfeeding early?

4

86% start, but only 25.8% exclusively nurse at 6 months (CDC). Primary drivers: latch pain, supply anxiety, tongue ties, pumping confusion, and lack of expert guidance.

When should I see a lactation consultant?

5

Signs include a shallow latch that won't improve, clicking sounds while feeding, nipple pain or compression, and a baby who's struggling to transfer milk efficiently. Tongue ties are often missed in hospital checks. Our IBCLCs assess for tongue and lip ties as part of a video latch consultation.

Some initial tenderness is normal in the first few days, but lasting pain usually points to a latch issue, an oral tie, or an early sign of mastitis or thrush. Pain that doesn't improve after the first two weeks is worth getting looked at — it doesn't just go away on its own.

How do I know if my baby has a tongue tie?

6

Why does breastfeeding hurt so much?

7

Ideally within 1-2 weeks after birth if you're experiencing difficulty. Key signs: painful nursing, baby not gaining weight, low supply concerns, or returning to work needing a pumping plan.

My newborn isn't gaining weight — can a lactation consultant help?

8

Yes. Poor weight gain in a breastfed baby is almost always a feeding issue — usually latch, supply, or transfer — and that's exactly what an IBCLC is trained to assess. A video consultation can often identify the issue within one session.

Many insurance plans cover lactation consultant services under the ACA. We recommend checking with your insurer directly, and we can help you understand what documentation to request.
