Potty Training: The Signs

After they have peed a couple of times while you are watching them, you will be able to start telling their cues just seconds before they are going to act on peeing or pooping. Some of the common signs your child will show when the want to pee or poop are

  • Holding their penis or vagina

  • Crossing their legs

  • Doing a potty dance

  • Staring into space

  • Getting still and quite

  • Shivering before their let their pee out

If you see any of these signs you should ask them if they are feeling the need to go and use the potty and guide them towards their potty and encourage them to use the potty to do the deed. Through the process of potty training, keep encouraging and reminding them to understand how their body is feeling, when they are getting the urge to use the potty and using positive words and a calm demeanor to talk to them.

The first time your child poops would notice when they have let it out a little, this is when you can guide them to the potty and tell them to let the remaining poop slide into the potty. Some of the common poop signs are:

  • Some kids will pass gas

  • Some of them will go to a quiet place

  • They might start squirming in panic

  • Or become very still and quite

Once you start understanding and noticing their pre-poop signs you can tell them that they could go to the potty and let their poop slide out. Through the journey make sure you are empowering and encouraging your child to use the potty when they are feeling the urge to poop. You could also help them to put the poop into the big toilet and flush it down.

At no cost should you force your child to sit down or sit on the potty for a stipulated amount of time just so they perform the act of peeing or pooping, this will certainly backfire and you will get resistance and push back from your child.
