Introducing a Pacifier: Your Guide

Not all babies are immediately comfortable with a pacifier, but using a pacifier can be a great comforting tool for new babies so try introducing them to a pacifier in the first couple of months only.

Give your baby a pacifier when you are comfortable with the idea. We would suggest you not try and avoid introducing a pacifier to your baby when they are extra tired or fussy, give your baby the pacifier when they are calm and happy.

Easy tricks to introduce your baby to a pacifier:

Pacifiers are a great tool to have when you want to sleep train your baby, while they are teething and when they are extra fussy. So easy ways you can introduce your baby to a pacifier are as follows:

  • Place the pacifier on their upper lip or you could place it on their tongue and rotate it in a circular motion.

  • If your baby is fidgeting too much you can try swaddling them and giving them a pacifier. 

  • They might thrust their tongue out when you put a pacifier in their mouth, dont worry it’s normal for them to do so till they get used to latching and get comfortable with the pacifier.

  • Always remember you have to be patient, Try practicing giving them a pacifier once a day. If they are still not liking the idea of having a pacifier it's alright there are other techniques you can try for soothing them.
