At the 4-month mark, your baby starts to understand and is learning new skills also like crawling, sleep training, teething, etc. Certain milestones you will observe your baby grasp at 4 months are

Emotional and Social Milestones

  • Learns to smile when so they can get your attention

  • They start to giggle when you are trying to make them laugh

  • Will follow you with their gaze

  • Will start making sounds to grab your attention

Communication and Language Milestone

  • Starts making sounds like “ooooo”, “aaaaaa”

  • Uses sounds to communicate with you

  • When they hear your sound they look toward you

Cognitive Milestones (learning, thinking, problem-solving)

  • Opens their mouth when they are hungry, more so when they see a bottle or breast (if being breastfed)

  • Starts staring and using their hands when they have tummy time

Movement/Physical Development Milestones

  • They are able to start holding their head steadily when you have them in your arms

  • Is able to grab or hold on to a toy when you put it near them or in their hand

  • Waves and moves their hands around in excitement when they see toys

  • Starts bringing their hand to their mouth, this could also mean they are hungry or teething

  • Your baby will try doing a pushup. Kidding, using their arms and legs to stay up when on tummy time.
